What is this medicine?

CHLORZOXAZONE helps to relieve pain and stiffness in muscles and can treat muscle spasms.

What should my health care professional know before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • drink more than 3 alcohol containing drinks per day
  • liver disease
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to chlorzoxazone, other medicines, lactose, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. If this medicine upsets your stomach, take it with food or milk. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

What if I miss a dose?

If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What may interact with this medicine?

  • alcohol or medicines that contain alcohol
  • antihistamines
  • barbiturates like phenobarbital
  • benzodiazepines
  • medicines for pain
  • muscle relaxants
  • phenothiazines like chlorpromazine, mesoridazine, prochlorperazine, thioridazine

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What should I watch for while taking this medicine?

Check with your doctor or health care professional if your condition does not improve.

You may get drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. Do not stand or sit up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Alcohol may interfere with the effect of this medicine. Avoid alcoholic drinks.

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
  • darkened brown urine
  • difficulty breathing
  • fever
  • nausea or vomiting
  • severe stomach pain
  • unusually weak or tired
  • yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

  • dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • headache
  • loss of appetite
  • orange or purple-red color of the urine

Where can I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
